The Fenmen (as the club are now nicknamed) turned 100 on Monday 15th June 2020 but plans to celebrate the event were curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown rules.
Wisbech Town Football Club were formed at a Town Hall public meeting convened to discuss the merits of merging the three local sides who played on Wisbech Park - Wisbech Working Men’s Conservative Club, Park Works, and St Joseph's. The Mayor, Cllr Mr Weston-Miller, chaired the meeting and upon the carrying of the motion to form a 'Town' club became the club's first ever President.
The first match wasn't played until the start of September 1920, with an estimated 1500 supporters watching Cyril Wright score the Town's first goal in a 1-1 draw with Yaxley in the Peterborough League. The Lynn League was also entered and that gave the club its first silverware as League winners. The more competitive Peterborough League saw a 9th-place finish.
In the intervening years, more than 5000 players have worn the red of Wisbech Town, with 44 different managers or management teams picking the team. From the highs of Midland Division runners-up in 1958 and reaching the FA Cup 2nd Round Proper in 1957 and 1997 to the lows of flirting with relegation in the Eastern Counties League and the infamous "Sandwich Incident" of the mid-nineties, it's certainly been a rollercoaster ride for the fans!
