First goal also scored on that day!

On Saturday 14th August 2010, the Fenland Stadium as it was originally named, hosted its first ever game when Wisbech Town took on Leicester side St Andrews in the FA Cup Preliminary Round.

Tommy Treacher had the honour of scoring the first goal in front of a packed North End stand, diverting Scott Carter's 11th minute shot from outside the box to such an extent it completely wrong-footed the St Andrews' keeper. Darren Jimson (2) and Craig Parker (2) grabbed the other goals at the Town End in the second half in a resounding 5-0 win for the Fenmen.

Wisbech team that day: Lea Jordan; Simon Flanz; Ash Murrell; Paul Cousins (c); Anthony Reeve; Wayne Morris; Matt Lunn; Scott Carter; Andy Furnell; Tommy Treacher; Craig Parker
Subs (used): Darren Jimson; Ash Stevens; Lewis Thompson
Subs (not used): Stuart Cobb; Lewis Cook

663 spectators were there to witness the historic day, a record crowd for the ground that stood until the visit of current manager Brett Whaley's March Town United side in an FA Cup replay 13 months later. That raised the record to 830 which has stood to this day.

In the ten years since it opened, the Fenland Stadium has hosted many hundreds of games, seen countless goals scored at both ends, survived (just about) the worst that the British weather could throw at it and now waits patiently for the crowds to hopefully return...

The Fenland Stadium's second decade of matches begins on Saturday when Andy Furnell, our number 9 in that first game in 2010, brings his Yaxley side for a pre-season friendly. Sadly, government guidelines mean this game is being played behind closed doors but we shall be keeping the fans informed of proceedings through our social media channels.
