With a squad largely unchanged from last season, the Fenmen travel to Knight Street, Pinchbeck tonight at 7.30pm to face Pinchbeck United in the first of a handsome selection of pre-season friendlies.
The Knights, founded in 1935, currently play in UCL Division One having recently moved from the Eastern Counties League and will prove a tough first test for the Fenmen. Conditions should be slightly cooler than the weekend and the match has a ‘pay what you want’ entrance fee. The Knights also have a number of new pin badges as advertised on their Twitter feed for the interest of collectors.
Wisbech travel ‘up the road’ with a squad that will be familiar to many from last season. A notable departure is goalkeeper Will Lakin, who is ably replaced by former Heacham goalkeeper Aaron Watson. Other new faces are not-so-new to the Wisbech faithful with defender Owen Howard returning from a stint in the USA and local lad Ben Dear joining to bolster the midfield also from Heacham. Ben's dad Chris was a stalwart of the Fenmen's defence for several years and also had a stint as Assistant Manager to Steve Appleby.
Following the trip to Pinchbeck the Fenmen stay on the road with a Saturday 5th July trip to near-neighbours Parson Drove for a 3pm KO.
