A very good workout and probably the best performance of pre-season, against the toughest opposition, ends in defeat for The Fenmen.
The Fenmen were the better side in the first half but went behind just before half time to a goal which was against the run of play. The travelling fenmen felt there was a foul by the opposition as they dispossessed a Wisbech player of the ball in the build up to the goal.
The second half saw a number of substitutions by both sides and Wisbech began to play a little deeper than in the first half which allowed their Step 4 opponents to have the better of the possession. However, there were very few chances created by either side, as was the case in the first half, and the score remained 1-0 at the final whistle.
Overall a good team performance in poor weather conditions, during which there was some good football played by The Fenmen, especially in the first half. With Hart, Murphy, Ward, Mattless and Assombalonga missing things look much brighter this July than they did last year.
