FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round - Report courtesy of Adrian Lynn
Toby Allen was at it again, netting four goals as the Fenmen crushed Whitton United at Fountain Fresh Park.
Wisbech have now sored 18 goals in their last three home matches and Allen has hit 10 of them, including three successive hat-tricks. He now has 13 goals so far this season.
It was a treat to see the Fenmen playing football on the ground. The high ball has largely vanished as they attempt to build from the back.
Wisbech included three loanees from Corby Town and it was one of these, the highly impressive Charley Sanders, who set up the first goal. His pinpoint pass down the right was crossed for Allen to strike his first goal into the roof of the net after seven minutes.
The second goal, after 20 minutes, was similar. This time Chris Assombalonga raced on to Sanders’ ball and crossed for Allen to hit his second.
Whitton, from Step 6 in the Eastern Counties League Division One North, played some decent football at times and were unlucky when the impressive Tyo Parnell’s left-foot effort cannoned off the bar.
The second half soon saw Wisbech adding to their tally. This time Aaron Hart, who had an excellent game, won the ball and his shot was parried into the path of Allen, who completed his hat-trick.
Allen then made it 4-0 from close range and was then substituted to a large round of applause.
Wisbech gifted the visitors a goal but Assombalonga immediately replied with a close-range header. Whitton made it 5-2 from a free kick only for Amir Ward, who tormented the Whitton left back, to race through for the sixth goal.
Assombalonga made it seven with another close-range header just before the final whistle.
Wisbech going forward look unplayable at times. Now they await the draw for the first round proper which takes place on Monday.
