The two most successful sides in the 74-year history of the Cambs Invitation Cup will meet in this season’s final at Ely on Tuesday evening.
Cambridge City have won the cup 15 times and Wisbech Town 10 times, their most recent triumph being a 3-1 win over City in the 2016 final.
That was The Fenmen’s only success of the 21st century, having lost 2-0 in the final to Histon in 2001 and 3-1 to Mildenhall in 2010.
Cambridge City have struggled this season in the Northern Premier League Midland Division but they finally made certain of another season in the league with a 1-1 draw at home to Hinckley on Saturday. Ex-Wisbech striker Dylan Edge was playing for City and they also included Daniel Cotton, a prolific goalscorer over the years.
Fenmen goalkeeper Dan George will be playing against his old side.

Club History:
In the late 1950s and 1960s Cambridge City commanded the highest attendances in non-league football, regularly attracting in excess of 3,500 (higher than rivals United). They were Southern League champions in 1962/63.
But Cambridge United were elected into the Football League in 1970. With United going well in the Football League Division Two, gates at City dwindled with The Lilywhites attracting fewer than 200 supporters.
However, the original stadium in Milton Road was replaced by a business centre and a new ground built directly behind it. In 1985/86, the first season on the new Milton Road ground, City won the division on goal difference and were once again back in the top flight of the Southern League.
City remained at this level throughout the 1990s and in 2004/05 qualified for the newly-formed Conference South.
However, off the field problems started to dominate. Not for the first time, City had got themselves into dire financial trouble and news broke that their Milton Road home had been sold. In addition, the then board of directors announced they could not sustain Conference South football and the first team would be scrapped, with the City reserve team a feeder for Cambridge United.
Incensed by the proposal, City fans formed a Supporters’ Trust that within weeks had taken over the running of the football club.
City were demoted from the Conference South to the Southern League in 2008. This was due to the club failing to meet a ground grading requirement.
Planning permission was finally granted on the Milton Road site for a housing development in 2013. This meant the last game City played at Milton Road was in April 2013.
Since City left Milton Road they have ground shared at Histon and St Ives.
Planning permission was granted in 2018 for a new community stadium in Sawston, south of the city centre. The site started development in early 2021. Since then there have been various delays due to Covid, supply issues, contractors, planning and building control as well as a rise in the stadium costs.
In 2021 City were moved to the Northern Premier Midlands Division, where they continue to play.

Admission: £10 adults, £5 concession and under 16 free.
