The Fenmen recovered from an awful start to record victory over Pinchbeck at Fountain Fresh Park tonight , a win which puts them top of the table at this very early stage.
The visitors could not believe their luck when, seconds from the start, home goalkeeper Charlie Congreve made a disastrous attempt to collect a high ball and it fell to Taylor Jaine, whose effort found the back of the net.
Wisbech looked a poor and disjointed outfit in the first half and the visitors squandered a couple of excellent chances o extend their advantage. But the Fenmen managed to draw level on the stroke of half time, Rob Conyard netting at the third attempt for his second goal of the season.
The home side upped their game in the second half and mostly dominated play, although Pinchbeck still posed danger on the break with ex-Wisbech front man Andre Williams posing a threat,
Second-half sub Sam Murphy made all the difference in midfield, Danny Brooks moved to the back and was a steadying influence and young sub Matteo Perkins added pace up front when he came on.
Perkins went close to giving Wisbech the lead but the home side eventually broke down Pinchbeck’s stubborn resistance through man-of-the-match Sisa Tuntulwana.
Wisbech were now in control and it was no real surprise when Toby Allen added a third late on when he converted a cross from Perkins.
At the other end Pinchbeck had two more chances, including one where it seemed easier to score.
Aaron Hart was lively when he was introduced as sub and Wisbech ended the match in control.. But they will want to forget that dreadful first half.
