The Fenmen travel to Skegness on Wednesday in a bid to get their league season back on track.
Skegness, nicknamed The Lilywhite, are likely to include a number of faces familiar to Wisbech fans.
Adam Millson was a fixture in the Fenmen’s midfield for many years and Stacey Cartwright has enjoyed a couple of spells with the club. Conor Marshall has also played for Wisbech.
Skegness made a slow start to the season but they are now climbing the table. They lost 2-1 away to Sheffield FC in the FA Cup but progressed to the next round of the FA Vase on Saturday with a 2-1 success at Saffron Dynamo.
Last season Wisbech completed a league double over the Lilywhites, winning 2-1 at home last August and 2-1 at Skegness in January.
Manager Chris Rawlinson joined Skegness at the start of the 2019/20 season having previously managed Spalding Utd to the Northern Premier League play-off final, where they lost narrowly to Witton Albion.
Club history
The club was founded in 1947 and became founder members of the Lincolnshire League in 1948. They moved on to the Midland Counties League from 1958 to 1982, finishing runners-up in 1978/79, missing out on the title on goal difference. The club had a season in its successor, the North Counties (East) League, before returning to the Lincolnshire League in 1983.
The club were league champions in 2006/07, 2007/08, 2015/16 and 2016/17. In 2018 the Lilywhites were promoted to the Northern Counties East League Division One. They were promoted once again in 2021, this time to the UCL Premier Division North.
In 2016, it was announced that Skegness would be moving from their Burgh Road ground to the new Vertigo Stadium on Wainfleet Road. The ground was completed for the start of the 2017/18 season.
