Sleaford Town, who travel to meet The Fenmen on Tuesday, started the season well but have slipped of late and now occupy 10th place in the UCL Premier Division North table after six matches.
Their last two results have been a 2-2 draw with Sherwood Colliery, having been 2-0 up, and a 2-1 defeat on Saturday at high-flying Eastwood CFC.
Last season Sleaford, nicknamed The Greens, enjoyed one of their best campaigns, finishing fifth. They completed the double over Wisbech, winning 3-1 at Fountain Fresh Park, when the home side had two players sent off, and 1-0 at home last November.
Player-manager Tom Ward, a central defender, has played most of his career at a higher level, having turned out for King’s Lynn Town, Boston United and St Albans City. Finlay Armond, a Sleaford regular this season, has made a number of appearances for The Fenmen.
Club History
Sleaford Town were founded in 1923 and joined the Lincolnshire League. In 2003 The Greens announced plans to seek a higher level of football in the United Counties League. They had their best-ever Lincolnshire League season in 2003/04, winning the title for the first time in 23 years and gaining promotion to the UCL.
After leaving their previous ground, Sleaford played for three seasons at RAF Cranwell. Despite winning the UCL Division One title in 2005/06, they were not allowed promotion until their new Eslaforde Park ground was ready the following season, and they finished runners-up.
They first entered the FA Cup in 2008/09, reaching the first qualifying round. In the FA Vase their best performance was reaching the fourth round in 2015/16.
