Five goals on Saturday followed by six tonight at Fountain Fresh Park. The Fenmen’s start under new manager Alex Street is truly remarkable.
But for much of the game the fast-raiding Sleaford were a match for Wisbech. They are a decent side but in the end they collapsed as the home side struck three times in the last 10 minutes.
Leading the way once again was Toby Allen, who hit his second hat-trick in successive games, taking his tally to eight for the season.
The match was a credit to the United Counties League with both sides intent on playing attacking football in front of good crowd of 207.
Goalkeeper Charlie Congreve made a crucial early block but Sleaford took the lead when a mistake by Sisa Tuntulwana enabled ex-Parson Drove player Ryan Lennon to break clear and score.
The equaliser was a superb goal. Sam Murphy did well to retain possession on the halfway line before passing back to Lee Briggs whose lovely lofted ball found Sisa. He raced down the right and crossed for Chris Assombalonga to fire home the equaliser.
Wisbech then went ahead before half-time when Assombalonga was fouled in the area and Murphy stepped up to convert his third penalty of the season.
Sleaford pressed after the break but missed some excellent chances to equalise as the Fenmen were forced to defend. But Allen then stretched their lead from a breakaway.
The visitors continued to press, forcing an excellent save from Congreve. Then an effort hit the underside of the bar and the goalkeeper managed to tip the ball to safety.
Sleaford caved in towards the end. Wisbech exploited wide open spaces and Sisa added the fourth goal before Allen topped off proceedings with two goals to complete his hat-trick.
A wonderful win but this was a match of fine margins and the final score does not reflect the game as a whole.
