Boston Town will include a number of familiar faces when they travel to Fountain Fresh Park for a league encounter on Saturday.
Ex-Fenmen Luke Wilson, Layton Maddison, Jordan Nuttell and Liam Adams all played in Boston’s 0-0 draw at Heanor last Saturday, their first away point of the season after five consecutive defeats on the road.
The Poachers have won just four of their league matches including a 3-1 home success against Wisbech on August 22nd when Maddison, Nuttell and Adams all scored. Adams is their leading scorer with nine goals, the latest from inside his own half in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Pinchbeck in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup. Ex-Wisbech striker Harry Limb was on the bench on Tuesday.
They have struggled in the league, without a win since September 2, but it is a different story in the FA Vase. Excellent wins over Blackstones, Hucknall Town, Ingles and Stone Old Alleynians have seen them progress to the last 64 where they will visit Worcester City.
Boston are managed by Martyn Bunce, who had a short spell assisting Dick Creasey at Wisbech some years ago.
Club history
Boston have had plenty of success over the years, winning several titles in different leagues and reaching the semi-final of the FA Vase.
Boston FC was started in 1963 by former officials of Boston United who were concerned that United's financial problems, which had led them to resign from the Midland League, would force them to fold. The club initially played at the Mayflower Sports Ground for a few months before moving to the current Tattershall Road ground. They joined the Lincolnshire League, winning it in their first season. Boston moved to the Central Alliance the following season, going on to win a second successive league title without losing a match.
In 1966 they joined the Eastern Counties League before moving to the Midland League in 1968/69. Boston won the Midland League in 1974/75 and reached the first round of the FA Cup in 1976/77, losing 3-1 at Barnsley. They won the league twice more, in 1978/79 and 1980/81.
Boston had spells in the North Counties East League and the Central Midlands League (champions in 1988/89. The club then entered the United Counties League Premier Division in 1991/92 and reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase in 1993/94, losing 2-0 on aggregate to Taunton Town.
In 1994 the club were renamed Boston Town and won the league in their first season under the new name. They won the UCL for a second time in 2000/01 and the league cup iin 2003/04 and 2006/07.
