The Fenmen will be looking to return to winning ways when they entertain UCL Premier Division North bottom club Hucknall Town at Fountain Fresh Park on Saturday.
Hucknall won promotion from the United Counties League Division One after play-off triumph but this season has been a constant struggle for the Nottinghamshire club. They have managed just one victory from 21 league matches and are five points adrift of Pinchbeck at the foot of the table. Their sole success was a 2-1 win at home to Ashby Ivanhoe in September. One of their better results was a 1-1 draw against the visiting Fenmen on the first day of the season.
The Yellows have had a change of manager and are now led by Reece Limbert who has taken over from Andy Ingle.
Club History
The club was established in 1943 as Hucknall Colliery Welfare FC and changed their name to Hucknall Town in 1987. From 1999 to 2004 they played in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, finishing champions in 2003/04. However, as the Watnall Road stadium did not meet the then standards of the Football Conference they were refused promotion to the Conference National Division. In 2005/06 the club reached the final of the FA Trophy, losing 6-5 on penalties to Grays Athletic at the end of extra time following a 1-1 draw at full-time.
The club was relegated at the end of the 2008/09 season and a further relegation at the end of 2010/11 saw them drop into the NPL Division One South.
Financial problems saw them relegated two levels in 2012/13 to the Central Midlands Football League Division South. But after several years of financial difficulty there is much optimism for the future.
In the 2018/19 season the club celebrated its 75th anniversary finishing as champions of the Central Midlands League Division South and were promoted to the Step 6 in the East Midlands Counties League Premier to start back up the football pyramid.
Town moved into the United Counties League Division One for the start of the 2021/22 season.
