The Fenmen missed a number of excellent chances and paid the price when Eastwood CFC equalised in the closing minutes at Fountain Fresh Park this afternoon.
It was an uncompromising match of fierce challenges, some fair, some unfair, with the referee often appearing to be in danger of losing control, especially in a helter-skelter second half.
Wisbech made their customary slow start and struggled to get out of their own half in the first 20 minutes. The visitors hit the bar with a fine effort and also had the ball in the net, only to be foiled by the offside flag.
But Wisbech worked their way into the game. Wing back Harry Wren, put through by Toby Allen, failed to make the most of his opportunity, but after 36 minutes Andre Williams hit a powerful shot from the left which gave his side the lead.
The visitors missed a golden chance to equalise at the start of the second half when a penalty kick struck the post.
For much of the second half Wisbech broke quickly but were lacking in front of goal. Young sub Harley Murkin had three good chances while the experienced Jon Challinor missed the target when put clear.
There were other good chances but the visitors always posed a threat and they eventually equalised from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
There was still time for sub Pat Kacirek to head a cross on to the roof of the net.
Allen and supporters' man-of-the-match Ethan Wilson both came off injured in the second half.
