The Fenmen will entertain relegation-battling Hucknall Town at Fountain Fresh Park on Saturday,
The Nottinghamshire club have the worst away record in the league, but they recorded their first away success with a stunning 5-2 win at Eastwood CFC last Saturday. The victory moved them off the bottom of the table, if only on goal difference ahead of Pinchbeck.
It has been a season of struggle for The Yellows in their first season back at Step 5, but they have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks.
The sides drew 1-1 at Hucknall in the first game of the season way back in July, Rob Conyard netting for Wisbech from the penalty spot in front of a gate of almost 700.
Club history
Hucknall Town were established in 1943 as Hucknall Colliery Welfare FC. The club changed its name to Hucknall Town in 1987.
From 1999 to 2004 Hucknall played in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, finishing champions in 2003/04. However, as the Watnall Road stadium did not meet the then standards of the Football Conference, the club was refused promotion to the Conference National Division.
In 2005/06 Hucknall reached the final of the FA Trophy, losing 6-5 on penalties to Grays Athletic following a 1-1 draw at full-time.
The club was relegated at the end of the 2008/09 season and a further relegation at the end of 2010/11 saw relegation to the NPL Division One South.
Further financial problems resulted in relegation two levels in 2012/13 to the
Central Midlands Football League Division South. In 2014/15 they won the
League Cup.
In the 2018/19 season the club celebrated their 75th anniversary, finishing as champions of the Central Midlands League Division South and were promoted to the Step 6, the East Midlands Counties League Premier.
Town moved to the United Counties League Division One for the start of the 2021/22 season and in 2022/23 gained promotion back to Step 5 .
