The Fenmen produced a battling performance to earn a well-deserved point against promotion-chasing Melton at Fountain Fresh Park this afternoon.
It followed a first half mostly dominated by the visitors but which ended all square at the interval.
Wisbech were on the back foot from the start against the slick-passing visitors. Melton created several good chances but were off target in front of goal.
Eventually they were awarded a penalty and top scorer Tyreace Palmer slotted the spot kick past supporters' man-of-the match Dan George.
But Wisbech worked their way into the match and equalised just before half time. Ethan Wilson took a free kick way out on the left, 40-plus yards from goal, which beat everyone including goalkeeper Bill Harrison, who was possibly dazzled by the sun.
After the break it was a much more even match and The Fenmen more than held their own, despite losing midfielder Wilson through injury. Earlier Joe Burgess, making his debut on loan from Stamford, was forced off with what looked like a nasty injury.
Towards the end Melton midfielder Damian McCrory was sinbinned but Wisbech were unable to take advantage against the 10 men.
Referee James Truman, never a favourite with Wisbech fans, booked a number of players from both sides for trivial offences.
All in all a good point with a number of noteworthy performances by the Fenmen. Striker Michael Frew worked hard throughout and Harry Twite continues to show maturity beyond his years.
