A last-gasp goal earned the understrength Fenmen a deserved point against promotion-chasing Skegness at Fountain Fresh Park tonight.
Amir Ward found the net with a deflected shot in the eighth minute of added time. It was no more than his hard work deserved.
Wisbech had begun slowly and it was no surprise when veteran striker Gary King scored with a lovely effort into the top corner after just three minutes.
Skegness, who started with four ex-Fenmen with two more on the bench, dominated the early stages but Wisbech held on with some last-ditch defending and worked their way into the game.
The last 15 minutes of the half was all Wisbech and they went close on a number of occasions, including Dan Roberts hitting the post from close range.
The second half was even and both sides had opportunities. Ex-Fenman Conor Marshall hit the post from long range and King blotted his copybook, blasting a penalty high into the night sky.
Both sides made several changes, Skegness bringing on ex-Wisbech manager Leon Mettam and assistant manager Danny Brooks, but it was the home side who had the last say.
